The Brown Palace Hotel & Spa offers a historic and luxurious experience in downtown Denver, boasting iconic architecture and a central location. However, recent reviews highlight inconsistencies in room quality, outdated amenities, and operational issues such as malfunctioning appliances and slow service, particularly concerning billing and maintenance. Despite positive experiences with staff like Samuella, significant concerns exist regarding upkeep and value for money.

The afternoon tea was expensive, but lovely. Wait staff were awesome, from the staff at tea to the musicians in the lobby to the desk staff at check in/out to the concierge. Top notch people. Outside of the atrium, the hotel seemed to be in a state of neglect. One elevator was not working and the second was very slow and got stuck between floors. My room had a cracked sink, broken faucet handles, and drooping/unfastened paneling on the air conditioner. The room was also dusty and the mirrors weren't fully cleaned. The mattresses were fair, but the sheets felt plasticky and the pillows were uncomfortable. The beds themselves were too short for me. These issues may seem minor, but for the price of even a base room they are unacceptable. This is doubly true in such a historic building. If Mariott cannot keep their "autograph collection" hotel in tip-top shape, then it speaks to neglect and rot from the top down of the entire brand. This hotel has its own holiday, and Marriott is content to sell a room with a cracked sink. This attitude makes me reconsider my loyalty to Marriott.

Paid for a suite + champagne, when I arrived I was placed in a small box of a room. Called downstairs to ask where the champagne was and they said I did not book the correct package. I then asked if I was in a suite and was told I did not book a suite. Went to the front desk to show them the email confirmation. The woman I spoke to was incredibly rude and acted like it was my fault. She ended up switching my room, but the champagne never arrived. Took 7, yes 7, tries to get room service on the phone. Took forever to get my Champaign and it was not covered. The room was always hot no matter what we set the thermostat to. Do not stay here.

I greatly enjoyed my stay here with friends. I got upgraded to a large room on the top floor, and it felt old fashioned and like stepping back in time. Really a cool experience. A welcome drink was offered upon arrival, which I had never experienced at any hotel. This is an incredibly cozy place, perfect for a couples getaway.

We stayed on a Saturday night so prices were very high but was willing to pay the price for hopefully an awesome experience. That didn't happen. Problem #1 - When we went up to our room, it was very cold! Went over to the thermostat and it was not working. We had to call maintenance to get some heat. They at what would be an ok temp but at least we got some heat. Later in the evening, it got too hot but to correct it, we would have had to call maintenance again. The maintenance men were nice but told us to understand that it was an old hotel. That is no excuse to not have a functioning thermostat. They have a cigar bar that opens at 2 pm. The doors to the cigar bar open to the lobby so the entire hotel reeks of cigar smoke. Problem #3 - When we checked in, I asked if we needed reservations for Sunday breakfast. The desk clerk laughed as if the thought was ridiculous. Sunday morning when we went to the breakfast restaurant, we were asked if we had reservations. We said "no" and then were told that it would be a 25 min. wait even though there were many empty tables. Summary, I was severely disappointed with my experience at the Brown Palace, especially with the prices we were charged.

I was booked in for 8 nights, but I moved hotels after just one, which I think says everything. The communal spaces a great, but the rooms are terrible. I had a fan/heater in my room which I could not switch off, which measured 55 dB at the bed!!! Couple that with the band that was played when I arrived after some 16 hours of travel), which I could hear easily in my room on 7th floor, meant that my first nights sleep was non-existant. I was the showed two more rooms (although I waited 30 minutes for someone to turn up who never showed), both of which had fans that could not be turned off, then a fourth room where the ceiling was peeling and the wall padding fell off when I walked past it. Whilst waited for a second person to show me the new room, I went to breakfast. It was early, 06:30 and I was cold outside (maybe -7deg C), but the breakfast room was also freezing. I was shivering whilst eating. I received $100 as an inconvenience fee, but to be honest, I think I should have had a full refund. Other members of the group had issues too (for example, have to run the hot water tap for 15 mins to get hot water), although no one else left. I ended up staying in a suite apartment, which was quieter, and moved facilities, better breakfast, warmer, and was half the price!

We came for drinks, appetizers, and to enjoy the live piano. Unfortunately, the music was not played for most of the time we were there. The appetizers were disappointing, and both the appetizer and dessert menus were very limited. The drinks, however, were excellent. What really affected the experience was that vacuuming started around 6:20 while we were still seated, listening to the live piano, and finishing our time there. We don’t mind paying higher prices when the quality matches, but lately the quality seems to be going down while prices are going up. I’m sharing this to bring it to the attention of management—when people pay five-star prices, they expect a five-star experience. The building is a gorgeous historic building but has not been maintained as good as Broadmoor Hotel located in Colorado Springs! The furniture is very dirty and the bathroom as well!

For a 4 star hotel it definitely gave 3 star vibes. The check in area only had 1 person at the desk and it took a while to check in. The hotel definitely gave deferential treatment to their event guests. Perhaps if they were staffed better it would have been more seamless. Also when we arrived there was no one at the entry to help with bags, and we had 3 large bags to bring in. The rooms were small but quaint and historic. The gym was good but 2 of the treadmills didnt work. Absolutely do NOT recommend Ellyngtons restaurant on the premises. Rated that separately.

We absolutely loved our High Tea experience at the Brown Palace. I went with a group of friends, and we were all blown away—from the exceptional tea selection to the exquisite food and, most of all, the outstanding service. I had worried it might feel a bit snobby or overly formal, but it was the complete opposite. The staff was warm, gracious, and genuinely attentive, making us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. The live choir, made up of talented local performers, added a magical touch that made the entire afternoon feel truly special. And the food… absolutely spectacular! Every bite was beautifully crafted and full of flavor. We walked away so enchanted that we vowed to make this a yearly tradition. Thank you, Brown Palace, for a fantastic and unforgettable experience.

I’ve heard about The Brown Palace for years and expected a classy, well-kept historic hotel. Unfortunately, that’s not what we experienced. The lobby looks great at first glance, but once you leave that area, everything starts to fall apart. The elevator was grimy with stains on the walls and sticky residue on the floor. It felt neglected and unclean. The condition of the hallways and ceilings was even worse — water damage everywhere and random cords hanging down. I get that it’s an old building, but for what they charge per night, there’s no excuse for that kind of disrepair. Our room wasn’t any better. The wallpaper was peeling, the ceiling was spotted, and it just didn’t feel fresh or cared for. On top of that, the food prices were outrageous compared to what was actually served. The only reason we didn’t pack up and leave was because we were using Marriott Reward Points. If I had paid cash for that room, we’d have walked out immediately. This place trades on its name and history, but it’s in serious need of maintenance and management attention. Definitely not worth the money.

I stayed at The Brown Palace recently and was extremely disappointed. While the lobby is undeniably beautiful, the experience went downhill the moment we stepped into the elevator. It was dirty, with what looked like old spills down the walls and sticky, stained floors that had clearly been neglected for some time. Once upstairs, the condition of the hotel was even more disappointing. There were random electrical cords everywhere, and nearly every section of the ceiling showed water damage. I understand this is a historic property, but for the price charged per night, there’s no excuse for such poor upkeep. Our room wasn’t much better—peeling wallpaper, water spots on the ceiling, and an overall feeling that it just wasn’t clean. The shower was dirty and the bathroom vanity practically fell apart when you touched a drawer. The food was also shockingly overpriced for the quality. For what they charge, you’d expect at least a decent meal, but it didn’t come close to matching the hotel’s reputation or cost. Honestly, the only reason I didn’t walk out was because I was using my Marriott Reward Points and only had an hour before going to see the Lion King. Had I been paying cash, I would have never stayed the night and just driven home after the show. The Brown Palace may have a grand lobby and rich history, but beyond that, it feels neglected, tired, and not worth the hype or the price. Quite honestly, I think I should get my points back, there is no way this hotel is worth $500+/night.
