Devil’s Thumb Ranch Resort & Spa offers a luxurious mountain escape with expansive wilderness and a wide range of amenities, including a spa, horseback riding, and multiple dining options. While many guests praise the stunning scenery and exceptional service, recent reviews highlight inconsistencies in room quality, service reliability, and food quality, particularly regarding the tavern.

Excellent week at the Ranch in mid-February. It's been a bad snow year for CO, but the hiking and views were beautiful. The resort has 6500 acres of pristine wilderness to explore. Our week was spent hiking, enjoying the sauna, steam room and hot tub, skiing at nearby Winter Park and exploring the town of Fraser. Heck's, the main eatery in the lodge, has delicious, affordable offerings, a fireplace and above, a balcony with many nooks and crannies to sit, relax, watch tv, read a book, play a game or gather with friends. We enjoyed the Ranch House for our anniversary dinner. We had a few minor complaints and the management company called us within 45 minutes of suggesting everything wasn't perfect, and corrected it. I've never experienced such a positive response to feedback. We will continue to revisit Devil's Thumb Ranch & Spa frequently! It's a true Colorado gem.

Our room had several things broken and not working, including the fireplace and bathtub. The room keys also did not work and needed to be redone by staff several times over our stay. The staff said this was typical for our room door and the key cards for our room "always have problems". Service was overall good. Beautiful area, and the spa services were well done. Lots to do at this resort. Nice resort overall, but we were definitely disappointed with our room for the price we were paying. We were not offered another room or any compensation considering the broken elements. Avoid room 210 (I think that was our room number) if you can.

I can’t begin to describe how wonderful this place is. The atmosphere is beyond cozy and relaxing. There’s tons of fun and relaxing activities, we spent lots of time at the stables, spa, and sauna. The coffee shop and restaurants on property were perfect! We never even left the property the whole time we were there. The room was perfect and we loved our fireplace. Everyone we interacted with was friendly and helpful. We cannot wait to come back! We’d be here every weekend if we could!! Some feedback: the concierge was a little hard to get a hold of sometimes, but I think that’s because they were busy doing their jobs. The cleaning products that are used in the public bathrooms are very pungent and made the whole hallway smell like bathroom. These two issues were so small in comparison though that I hesitate to even call them issues.

My husband and I stayed here over the New Year’s holiday a few months ago. The hotel is undoubtedly beautiful, but there are serious deficits with the service and care of the property. -The room wasn’t super clean (dusting especially lacking), and the housekeeping staff were slow to service the room - at one point they showed up at 4 pm just as we were returning to the room and were clearly annoyed that we were in THEIR way. -Multiple machines in the gym were out of order. -The hot tub at the spa was out of order. -The lobby and atrium of the hotel were a complete mess the morning after New Year’s Eve - trash all over the floor, games tossed on coffee tables, glasses pilled up on shelving… -My boots - which were under a bench just outside the door to our room - were taken by the housekeeping staff. No knock on the door to ask if the shoes were mine. They just took the boots! It took over an hour to get them back; meanwhile I had no shoes to wear on the property. -Despite paying over $500 a night, a trail pass was not included in our stay. Yes, they wanted us to pay full price for access to the Nordic trails, after spending close to $2k for three nights - and the trails didn’t even have snow. There were positives -the waiters at Heck’s were fantastic and the food at the Ranch House Restaurant was wonderful - but overall the experience fell short of our expectations, especially given the price we paid.

Planned for over a month to come and fatbike…google and staff assured me that trails would be groomed with snowcats or snowmobiles. When I arrived, excited with all the fresh snow, The lady at the front desk said I could go out and in 15 minutes they would groom. An hour later the trail had still only been traversed by one cross country skier. I could not gain enough speed to forge my own path. They gave me another trail…a service road they said would be a wonderful workout. That was trodden by hikers and not groomed at all. Truly impossible. They offered me cross country skiing for free, but my whole hope was to fatbike. “Come tomorrow,” the lady said. I hiked instead, and when I returned at 2pm, still not groomed. So disappointed. ??

We enjoyed our second visit as much as our first to Devil's Thumb! For those that wanted to ski, it was an easy drive to Winter Park. I choose to relax & enjoy all the amenities and delicious food at Devil's Thumb. My facial at the spa was one of the best I have ever had. Another favorite was our meal at The Ranch House. Everyone loved the food and atmosphere. We stayed in a gorgeous, comfortable room at the High Lonesome. It was an easy, scenic walk to the main lodge. What a special place. Thank you for the excellent service. We will be back!

We had an amazing time. I highly recommend this resort. The two rooms we booked were clean and comfortable. A housekeeper Joanna checked in on us as we arrived in our rooms, and made sure we had everything we needed for our room, even offering to help with our luggage. We enjoyed the views, and how beautiful the surroundings were. It was exactly what we needed , a relaxing family getaway.

DTR was absolutely perfect for our annual cousin's ski-and-soak trip. We go somewhere new every year and Devil's Thumb Ranch did not disappoint. Ranch Creek Suite was spacious and comfortable for three of us. We enjoyed dining at Heck's Tavern and Ranch House, spa treatments, yoga, snow shoeing, and winter horseback riding! Highlights: -Everything about our spa experience, but a special shout out to the lovely British receptionist who had us laughing and feeling at home immediately. I would come back just for her and the spa experience! -Lovely waiter service at Ranch House. - DTR was very accommodating about rides to and from winter park and our drivers were incredibly sweet and personable. Potential areas of improvement: -Shower heads in Ranch Creek Suite could be replaced or possibly lowered. -Maybe a bit more of introduction to the ranch about check-in... we were first timers and could have used a little more guidance upon arrival about the general lay of the land and how guests typically access the property and amenities. Overall it has been a fantastic experience and I'd love to come back.

Staff is really kind and accommodating. The cabins are beautiful, peaceful, and quiet. There were a few details missed on cleaning in the bathroom but overall the room was extremely nice outside of the creakiest bed frame in North America. The stables were nice and they take such good care of their horses. We had a great ride. The food is absolutely horrible. Heck’s tavern is a joke - Overcooked, soggy, tasteless, dry… you name it. The steakhouse is okay but extremely overpriced. The coffee shop had good coffee but the food wasn’t that great there either, but we found it to be the most edible. For the price, you expect much much better.

We are regular users of the DTR XC ski network and have always enjoyed or ski days on the property. This holiday we scheduled two nights in the Peak to Peak house and made reservations at Hex's tavern for a family dinner. This experience was way below expectations. The house we rented was under provisioned, missing bathroom towels, and the curtains in bed rooms and living area were hanging down when we checked in. It generally felt like less than what we paid for. Our dinner at Hex's was horrible (at any price). We had to return our entree's twice. Both times delivered to the table cold. As a result, 1/2 our family members did not eat dinner. Only one entree was comped by the restaurant manager. Food at Hallowed Grounds was tasted pre-packaged and fast food-ish. The staff were nice and responsive but missed on just about every detail that you would expect at a resort like Devil's Thumb. Overall disappointing stay and not worth the money we spent on it. We will continue to ski at the ranch but will not gamble on a high cost overnight vacation at DTR again.
