Devil’s Thumb Ranch Resort & Spa boasts stunning mountain views, a wide array of activities, and luxurious accommodations, offering a unique blend of rustic ranch charm and upscale resort amenities. However, some guests report inconsistencies in service, food quality, and room cleanliness, alongside higher-than-expected costs and logistical challenges like limited availability and unexpected fees.
Magnificent, breathtaking views driving up here from Denver, and once here. Tons of activities and good, but pricey food. Not for those in good physical condition. Lots of walking to everything. Consider the potential impact of the altitude! Bring a car. Should provide atv or golf cart to get around, especially if elderly. Accommodations very lodge like, creatively decorated, with tons of comfortable seating everywhere. Beds look great but way too high up and hard to get into and I'm 6 feet tall! Staff very helpful and friendly.
Beautiful hotel, very well maintained, exceptionally clean, with spacious and luxurious rooms. The pool and spa area are absolutely stunning. Overall, this is a high-end hotel with many activities available, although most of them come at an additional cost. There are a few areas that could be improved; - The service could be warmer and more welcoming. The staff was polite, but we felt that the overall hospitality could be much better. - The restaurant should make sure that all the dishes listed on the menu are actually available and offer a wider variety of options, especially for breakfast. - The dining experience felt disorganized. The restaurant's opening hours were not always clear, our food arrived several minutes before the cutlery, and even basic items like salt and pepper were missing from the tables. One important thing to know is that meals are not included with the stay. We ended up spending around $200 per meal, so this is something future guests should keep in mind when planning their budget. Despite these issues, the hotel itself is beautiful and offers a luxurious atmosphere.
Absolutely loved our stay at Devil's Thumb Ranch! Definitely want to plan another trip. We thoroughly enjoyed our cabin lodging, the accessiblity to hiking/trails, the proximity to the horses, and phenomenal views in every direction. The staff is friendly and accommodating. Highly recommend!
What an incredible spot!! I was fortunate enough to go here for a company retreat and had the best time :) The location is so stunning but easy to get to. Staff was unmatched in hospitality and kindness. The calming atmosphere of the mountains is delightful, I went on the loveliest morning walks. The food is local and absolutely delectable! The pool/hot tub are big and comfortable, and there are SO. MANY. activities to do!! It’s a little on the steeper side but with so much to do in such a beautiful place, that’s not super surprising.
Devil’s Thumb Ranch Resort & Spa was such a beautiful experience. The rooms could be a little cleaner when it comes to small details, but overall the property, activities, spa atmosphere, and food made the stay feel really special. I also loved that it is a true working ranch, yet still manages to be one of the best spa resorts I have ever been to. That combination of rustic ranch charm, mountain beauty, and luxury relaxation is really unique. The Ranch House Restaurant was absolutely amazing and so worth it. Yes, it is crazy expensive, but honestly… God, it was heavenly. The 9 oz steak, the trout, and the gratin were so good that they literally made me come back a second day. The food felt memorable and beautifully done. The activities were also very well planned. Stacy’s morning yoga class was amazing — such a peaceful and grounding way to start the day. In the summer, I definitely recommend taking the earlier yoga class before it gets too hot. Bring sunscreen, sunglasses, and plenty of water. Also, Pawan at the pool bar is truly a master mixer. He made me a drink with real depth, interesting flavor, and a gorgeous surprise for my taste buds. It was creative, balanced, and so fun. Overall, Devil’s Thumb Ranch is expensive, but it really does offer a special mountain getaway with incredible food, thoughtful activities, a wonderful spa-resort feel, and staff who made the experience stand out.
My wife and I have had the opportunity stay at DTR on two different occasions. We love everything about the ranch. Romantic dinners, amazing staff, the conservation ethic that permeates every inch of the experience. The best possible way to unplug from a life busy with work and kids and get back to each other. The Ranch House Restaurant is an experience in itself. Winter Park and Fraser being just 15-20 minutes away is a bonus. Don't forget to get your hands on some warm chocolate chip cookies.
I rarely spoil myself on accommodations, but this was one worth the investment. The location is beautiful, the facilities evoke a ranch feeling without a sense of being worn-out, and the service was unobtrusive but attentive. It was an impressive experience.
Excellent week at the Ranch in mid-February. It's been a bad snow year for CO, but the hiking and views were beautiful. The resort has 6500 acres of pristine wilderness to explore. Our week was spent hiking, enjoying the sauna, steam room and hot tub, skiing at nearby Winter Park and exploring the town of Fraser. Heck's, the main eatery in the lodge, has delicious, affordable offerings, a fireplace and above, a balcony with many nooks and crannies to sit, relax, watch tv, read a book, play a game or gather with friends. We enjoyed the Ranch House for our anniversary dinner. We had a few minor complaints and the management company called us within 45 minutes of suggesting everything wasn't perfect, and corrected it. I've never experienced such a positive response to feedback. We will continue to revisit Devil's Thumb Ranch & Spa frequently! It's a true Colorado gem.
Our room had several things broken and not working, including the fireplace and bathtub. The room keys also did not work and needed to be redone by staff several times over our stay. The staff said this was typical for our room door and the key cards for our room "always have problems". Service was overall good. Beautiful area, and the spa services were well done. Lots to do at this resort. Nice resort overall, but we were definitely disappointed with our room for the price we were paying. We were not offered another room or any compensation considering the broken elements. Avoid room 210 (I think that was our room number) if you can.
I can’t begin to describe how wonderful this place is. The atmosphere is beyond cozy and relaxing. There’s tons of fun and relaxing activities, we spent lots of time at the stables, spa, and sauna. The coffee shop and restaurants on property were perfect! We never even left the property the whole time we were there. The room was perfect and we loved our fireplace. Everyone we interacted with was friendly and helpful. We cannot wait to come back! We’d be here every weekend if we could!! Some feedback: the concierge was a little hard to get a hold of sometimes, but I think that’s because they were busy doing their jobs. The cleaning products that are used in the public bathrooms are very pungent and made the whole hallway smell like bathroom. These two issues were so small in comparison though that I hesitate to even call them issues.
